EASY AS 1,2,3

WE WERE HOME by 9:30. After I saw Mr. Bob tucked into his bed in his hospital gown I kissed him goodbye and left him to nap knowing after this many years of marriage that that would be his preference given his 'druthers.

I settled myself in the waiting area and opened Anne Lamott's new book, "Imperfect Birds" and a nurse on her way to work, paused and asked, "Are you Jane?" Her mom, after reading this morning's early blog entry had quickly called her and told her to look for me. She was Mr. Bob's doctor's technical nurse........the one who hands him his instruments. I tell you, this blogging exercise is amazing.

Surprisingly soon, the doctor, who is camera shy, was assuring me that all went well.  When I was called in to see Mr. Bob, he was drinking juice through a straw and wrestling open a little package of crackers. In no time he was up and dressed and in the regulation wheelchair that takes patients curbside.

Instructions were that the bandage (can you call a piece of tape a "bandage"?) comes off at dinnertime, no matter if we eat at 5 or 7 and we then start the healing eyedrops.

Down the road, when it's your time to have cataract surgery, fear not........it's a piece of cake!

  1. Oh yes. My Mom has had it done on both eyes and has said exactly the same thing. My brother is her driver to and from and she loves his assistance. I am the phone daughter who is grateful it goes as well as it did for your Bob. Love Doctor's who know what they are doing.

  2. I'm so glad it went smoothly, and how sweet of the blog reader who alerted the nurse to your arrival.

  5. That saying below is so hilarious I had to steal it and pass it on. I sent it to Pastor Bob, who often sends on wise sayings.

I’ll be happy to see Mr. Bob up and around. Medicine is wonderful, isn’t it??? Jeanne

Oh, I thought the surgery was tomorrow or I would have said something, bad me! So how is Mr. Bob doing, besides being happy it is over, didn't take a l-o-o-ng time and he's back in his own nest. I should have offered to drive or something.
